Short CV - Research interests

George Liberopoulos  (B.S.’85 & M.Eng.’86, Mechanical Engineering, Cornell University; Ph.D.’93, Manufacturing Engineering, Boston University) is a Professor of Stochastic Methods in Production Management and Director of the Production Management Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) at the University of Thessaly (UTH).

Prior to joining DME as Assistant Professor in 1996, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering (currently Mechanical Engineering) at Boston University (1993) and a Visiting Research Scientist in Laboratoire de Méthodologie et Architecture des Systèmes Informatiques at CNRS & Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6) (currently Laboratoire d’Informatique-LIP6 at CNRS & Sorbonne Université), in France (1994-1996). During 2011-2017, he was a member of the Board of Commissioners of Greece's Regulatory Authority for Railways.

He is/was a member of the editorial boards of 1) Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, IISE Transactions, and OR Spectrum, 2) a book published by Springer, and 3) eight special issues of Annals of Operations Research, IISE Transactions, International Journal of Production Research, and OR Spectrum, with topics in the area of stochastic modeling of manufacturing and service systems. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Stochastic Models of Manufacturing and Service Operations (SMMSO). He has published over 50 articles in scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings, and has participated in over 20 sponsored scientific projects. He is a member of INFORMS.

His research interests focus on systems analysis with the use of operations research, applied probability, and automatic control methods, and applications in production/operations planning/control, supply chain management, design of electricity markets, et al. Specific topics of his research include:
