Research Projects
(Participation)
Title:

Development of a Monitoring System for Assessing Structural Integrity of Bridges under Earthquake Loads.

Sponsor: Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OAÓÐ)
Partners: Dept. of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, U. of Thessaly
Dept. of Civil Engineering, U. of Thessaly
Institute of Technical Seismology and Earthquake Engineering, Thessaloniki, Greece (ÉÔÓÁÊ).
Objective:

The project aims first at obtaining real measurements from an intelligent system of sensors (accelerometers), which measure the vibration in highway bridges. The results are evaluated with appropriate computational techniques (developed in the course of the present project) in order to assess the condition of highway concrete bridges, with emphasis on the structural integrity against earthquake.

Principal Investigator:
Philip Perdikaris, Dept. of Civil Engineering, U. of Thessaly
Investigators of Dept. M&IE:
Spyros A. Karamanos, Costas Papadimitriou
Budget: 58,700 Euros
Duration: 24 months (2001 - 2003)
