Short CV - Research interests

Vasilis Bontozoglou was born in Thessaloniki in 1958. He received a Diploma in chemical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1982), and MSc (1986) and PhD (1988) in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.

During the period 1988-1993, he worked as a researcher at the Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI/CERTH). Since 1993, he has been with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Thessaly (1993-1998: assistant, 1998-2002: associate, 2002- : professor) where he has served as Department Head and member of the Senate. During 2008-2012, he held the position of Vice-Ρector of Research & Development, and President of the Research Committee of the University of Thessaly.

The research interests of Dr. Bontozoglou include the dynamics of free-surface and gas/liquid multiphase flows, heat/mass transport phenomena and the analysis and design of process equipment. He is using modern experimental techniques, in-house computer codes and theoretical analysis, and his research results have appeared in over 50 publications in international journals.

Dr. Bontozoglou is the Director of the Laboratory of Transport Processes, and a member of EuroTherm Committee for the advancement of thermal sciences in Europe. Since 2011, he participates in the editorial advisory board of the International Journal of Multiphase Flow (Elsevier) and since 2013 in the editorial board of Acta Mechanica (Springer).
