Short CV - Research interests

George Liberopoulos  (BS’85 & M.Eng.’86, Mech. Eng., Cornell University - PhD’93, Manuf. Eng., Boston University) is Professor of Stochastic Methods in Production Management and Head of the Production Management Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) at the University of Thessaly (UTH).

Prior to joining DME as Assistant Professor in 1996, he worked as Lecturer in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering (currently Mechanical Engineering) at Boston University (1993), and Visiting Research Scientist in Laboratoire de Methodologie et Architecture des Systèmes Informatiques (currently Laboratoire d’Informatique de Paris 6) at CNRS and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6), France (1994-1996). At UTH, he has held the positions of  Vice Chairman of DME (2005-2007), Chairman of DME (2007-2009), and Vice President of the University Research Committee (2005-2008). During 2011-2017 he was a member of the Board of Commisioners of Greece's Regulatory Authority for Railways.

He is/was a member of the editorial boards of 1) Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, IIE Transactions, and OR Spectrum, 2) a book published by Springer, and 3) eight special issues of Annals of Operations Research, IIE Transactions, International Journal of Production Research, and OR Spectrum, with topics in the area of stochastic modeling of manufacturing and service systems. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Stochastic Models of Manufacturing and Service Operations (SMMSO), and he was Chairman of the Organizing Committee of  SMMSO 2015, which took place in Volos, Greece. His has published over 50 articles in scientific journals, books and conference proceedings, and has participated in over 20 sponsored scientific projects. He has refereed papers for over 30 scientific journals and conferences.
