Short CV - Research interests

George Liberopoulos was born in Athens, Greece, in 1963. He received his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, USA, in 1985 and 1986, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University, USA, in 1993.

In 1993 he was a Lecturer in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering at Boston University, and during 1994-1996 he was a Visiting Scientist in Laboratoire de Methodologie et Architecture des Systèmes Informatiques (currently Laboratoire d’Informatique de Paris 6 - CNRS) at Université Pierre et Marie Currie (Paris IV), France. Since 1996, he has been with the University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece, initially as Assistant Professor and currently as Professor of Stochastic Methods in Production Management and Head of the Production Management Laboratory in the Department. During 2005-2007 he was Vice Chairman of the Department, and during 2007-2009 he was Chairman. During 2005-2008 he was Vice President of the University Research Committee of the University of Thessaly.

He is a member of the editorial boards of Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal (formerly: International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems), IIE Transactions and OR Spectrum. He has co-edited a book published by Springer and 6 special issues/volumes of Annals of Operations Research, IIE Transactions and OR Spectrum, with topics in the area of quantitative analysis of manufacturing systems. His has published numerous articles in refereed scientific journals and book volumes, and he has participated in over 10 sponsored scientific projects. He has refereed papers for many scientific journals and conferences. He is a member of INFORMS, the Greek Society for Operations Research, and the Technical Chamber of Greece.

He teaches prediploma and postdiploma courses in the area of Applied Probability, Operations Research, and Operations Management. He has supervised 4 completed PhD dissertations, over 20 Postgraduate Specialization theses, and over 40 Diploma theses. Currently, he supervises one PhD student.

His research interests include production planning and control, inventory management, stochastic analysis of manufacturing systems, statistical analysis of production and demand data, design and management of energy markets, and operations research and management methods.
