Laboratory of Mechanics & Strength of Materials

The Laboratory of the Mechanics & Strength of Materials is part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Thessaly and is located in the area of Volos in Central Greece. The laboratory was established in 1995 and operates with research and educational activities.
It supports the following courses:

It conducts research in the areas of: Computational Mechanics, Elasticity, Plasticity, Fracture Mechanics, Continuum Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Mechanical Testing, Mechanics of Structures (nonlinear analysis, stability, dynamics), Biomechanics".

The mission of the laboratory is:

  • to conduct basic and applied research in the broad area of Mechanics
  • to provide high level scientific services for the solution of specialized industrial technical issues
  • to collaborate with national and international laboratories in similar scientific fields
  • to collaborate with the private sector, institutes, organizations and companies so as to improve quality and competitiveness
