Experimental testing of structural components of critical importance under strong cyclic loading

Objectives

In this workpackage (WP3), using the experimental facilities of the partners, a number of medium-scale experiments in key components of industrial structural systems will be conducted under strong cyclic (static and pseudo-dynamic) loading, to determine their structural behaviour and failure modes, i.e. ratcheting, low-cycle fatigue cracking, buckling etc., as well as obtaining adequate measurements for the calibration of the numerical models, to be used in subsequent work packages. The tests under consideration in the present work are:

1. •tank or pressure vessel openings (nozzles) – six (6) tests
   

2. •bolted (flanged) piping connections (without and with internal pressure) – twelve (12) tests
   

3. •pipe elbows (with and without pressure) – fourteen (14) tests
   

4. •Tee-branch pipe connections – eight (8) tests
